One&Only Le Saint Géran

One&Only Le Saint Géran is one of the most glamorous resorts in Mauritius, set on its own private peninsula at the northern tip of the Belle Mare coastline on the east coast. It sits between the Indian Ocean and a large, calm lagoon, so there are two shorelines and more than two kilometres of white-sand beach. It's super stylish and luxurious, and the kind of place where you might spot a famous face or two.

There are 143 rooms and suites, including the signature Villa One, plus a collection of Private Pool Villas with two to six bedrooms. The interiors are modern and island-inspired, in shades of shell white, sky blue and stone, with local timber, Mauritian art and marble bathrooms. Every room and suite has a terrace or balcony facing the ocean, the beach or the lagoon. Even the entry-level rooms are 60–65m2, and every stay includes daily breakfast and a host service.

When we spent the day here, what struck us most was the space. The beach is stunning, the service was impeccable and, because the resort is so spread out, it felt wonderfully peaceful. We parked up on a day bed by the pool and it was so relaxing. The lagoon is large and calm, and great for water-skiing.

The dining is a real highlight. TAPASAKE serves Japanese cuisine with Mediterranean influences above the water, PRIME is a contemporary grill for premium steaks and local seafood, and RIVA is the resort's beach and pool club, inspired by the Italian Riviera. Le Badamier serves Mauritian dishes with a contemporary twist under an old badamier tree at the water's edge, and in the evening its bar comes alive with sunset cocktails and a DJ. La Terrasse is the waterfront restaurant for breakfast and international dinners, and La Pointe grills fresh local fish by the beach. L'Artisan is the bakery café, and Le Carré is a speakeasy bar with rare rums and live music.

There's plenty to do. Non-motorised water sports such as kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing and sailing are complimentary, and you can also go snorkelling over the coral reef or take a glass-bottom boat trip. Further afield you can go big-game fishing, take a private yacht cruise to Île aux Cerfs and Île Plate, or see the island by helicopter from the resort's own helipad. Club One is the resort's sports hub, with a state-of-the-art gym, padel and floodlit tennis courts, mini golf and yoga and fitness classes. It's also home to the kids and teens clubs.

Overall, One&Only Le Saint Géran suits families and couples equally well. Families have a huge kids club, a teens club and a choice of two- and three-bedroom suites and private villas. Couples will love the style, the Guerlain Spa and the sheer sense of space. If you want a sophisticated Mauritius resort with modern rooms and impeccable service, this is one of the best.

What recent guests tell us

• Use your host WhatsApp group from day one to lock in Tapasake, PRIME and RIVA: guests say specialty restaurants fill up, especially in high season.
• Beachfront and Ocean rooms are the usual pick for an open Indian Ocean outlook; Sunset rooms face the lagoon and are better if evening light over the lagoon matters more than a surf view.
• Several guests say the north beach is the nicer swimming stretch; other sides can have more seaweed or stones depending on conditions.
• Suite guests often mention a dedicated beach cabana as a real perk; ask us what your category includes.
• Half Board usually works as a dining credit at the specialty restaurants rather than unlimited à la carte: check the daily credit and what drinks are excluded before you rely on it.
• Beach service is excellent most of the time, but in peak Christmas and New Year weeks it can feel stretched, so allow a little extra time for orders.
• Tapasake's overwater setting is as much of a draw as the food; ask for a lagoon-facing table when you book.

For families

The kids club is massive. KidsOnly for younger children and One Tribe for teens are both based at Club One, which also has a multi-purpose pitch, mini golf and plenty of outdoor games. Family accommodation ranges from interconnecting rooms to two- and three-bedroom suites and Private Pool Villas. Children under 12 currently stay free when sharing with adults (outside the festive season, subject to maximum occupancy). Golf

There's no golf course at the resort itself, but Club One has mini golf and a putting range. The 18-hole championship courses along the Belle Mare coast are a short drive away, and we can add golf to your holiday. Just ask us.

Spa

The Guerlain Spa is the only Guerlain spa in Mauritius. It combines French beauty expertise with island healing rituals, including signature treatments created exclusively for the resort, such as Tropical Healing and Eau Bleue. There are also treatments for couples, Bastien Gonzalez's Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio and hair rituals. The spa is open daily from 8am to 8pm, with treatments from 10am.

Location

The resort sits at the northern tip of the Belle Mare coastline on the east coast of Mauritius, about an hour's drive from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. Helicopter transfers land at the resort's own helipad. The concierge team can arrange hikes, market tours, cooking classes and catamaran cruises around the island, and we can help you plan excursions too.

• All rooms, suites and villas include daily breakfast. Suite guests also have a dedicated beach cabana, a bottle of house Champagne and daily afternoon treats.
• Non-motorised water sports are complimentary. Ask us about water-skiing and other motorised activities, as charges may apply.
• There are mandatory gala dinner supplements on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
• A government tourist tax of EUR 3 per person per night applies to guests aged 12 and over.
• Check-in is from 2pm and check-out is at noon.
