LUX* Le Morne

LUX* Le Morne is a five-star beach resort on the south-west tip of Mauritius, at the foot of Le Morne Brabant, a UNESCO World Heritage mountain. It is one of the quieter LUX* properties: beach-chalet style rooms, five outdoor pools, a long stretch of sand and some of the island's best sunsets. It suits honeymooners and travellers who want a calmer west-coast pace, with kite surfing and dolphin trips nearby when the wind and sea allow.

The resort has 149 rooms and suites, The Kitchen for all-day dining, The Beach for sandy Mediterranean-style meals, EAST for Thai-inspired cooking, KAWAII for an eight-seat Japanese omakase, Maison LUX*, Letan Lontan rum bar and ICI ice cream. PLAY looks after children. The airport transfer is about 1 hour by road.

Our own visit

We have visited LUX* Le Morne and really liked it. It has a lovely tropical feel, with incredible sunsets and the Le Morne mountain as a backdrop. Several pools stretch along the beachfront, and because the property is long and narrow it never feels very big. We also loved the LUX* ice creams, and the Tree House, a bird's nest-style perch in an almond tree by the beach, can be booked for breakfast, a private dinner or a movie night for two. Another favourite was the Junk Art Gallery, a craft studio where guests can turn recycled bits and pieces, like old glass bottles, into something new to take home: a great way of upcycling.

It is best for couples, although families would be fine here too. If you are travelling with children and want this side of the island, ask us about family-focused options nearby as well.

Accommodation runs across Deluxe Rooms (about 42m²), Sunset Junior Suites (about 46m²), Junior Suites (about 52m²), Ocean Junior Suites (about 57m²), Prestige and Le Morne Junior Suites (about 63m²) and Family Suites (about 120m² adjoining rooms). Expect a balcony or terrace, bathtub, air conditioning, minibar, tea and coffee and a flat-screen TV. Many suites sit close to the sand with a soft, beach-chic look. Dining centres on The Kitchen (lagoon- and pool-facing, with a zero-food-waste focus), The Beach for barefoot lunches and dinners on the sand, EAST for Thai-inspired menus and KAWAII for a small omakase counter. KAWAII and EAST usually sit outside all-inclusive with a food credit or discount; ask us what your dates include. Maison LUX* covers coffee through aperitivo, and Letan Lontan is the rustic rum bar by day.

Facilities include five outdoor pools (some heated), LUX* Me spa with hammam and sauna, fitness, tennis, a beach treehouse for breakfast or cinema nights, complimentary non-motorised water sports (weather permitting) and PLAY for children. Dolphin and seasonal whale trips can be arranged. Ask us what is complimentary on your board basis.

Overall, LUX* Le Morne is a five-star plus west-coast choice for couples and honeymooners who want scenery and sunsets, and for families who prefer a softer pace than the livelier northern LUX* resorts.
