You can fly directly to Mexico or add it on to your American adventure – Northern Mexico is just a short drive from California and other southern states. Driving a bit further will bring you to the Pacific coast or the centre of an ancient civilisation.
The majority of Mexico’s visitors head to the beach resorts. Cancun on the east coast is a classic Caribbean white sand destination. The Pacific coast has stunning locations of its own and some amazing surf spots – popular Pacific resort towns include Acapulco and Los Cabos.
Mexico has been home to five ancient civilisations: the Olmec, Maya, Teotihuacan, Toltec, and Aztec. Explore the remnants of some of these cultures in the historic cities of Chichen Itza and Teotihuacán, as well as many other ruins on the Yucatan Peninsula and other parts of the country.
For a more modern but thoroughly cultural experience, visit Mexico City to see museums and galleries including Frida Kahlo’s Blue House. You will also find excellent Mexican food in street stalls and high-end restaurants and entertainment including Lucha Libre wrestling.
