Aruba is a small island with a lot to offer. It is known for its distinctive bent divi-divi trees and as a kitesurfing and windsurfing destination. Both of these things are made possible by the trade winds that persist across the island.
The main city of Oranjestad has lovely shops and restaurants, and the temperature is more moderate than the sometimes-oppressive heat elsewhere in the Caribbean. From there you can head to one of the many beach resorts around the island to stay in luxury or enjoy the sunshine.
The best kitesurfing and windsurfing spots are at Boca Grandi in the southeast, Barcadera in the west and Fishermans Huts on the northwest side of the island – this is also where you will find good kitesurfing and windsurfing lessons.
There is plenty to explore on Aruba. There are a few great snorkelling and diving locations, including some excellent wrecks. The white sandy beaches are interspersed with rocky coastline, and the interior of the island is a cactus-populated desert. Explore Aruba by car, on foot, or on horseback.
