Montreal is the largest city in the French-speaking Canadian province of Quebec. As might be expected, the city is a hub of culture celebrating its European and North American tradition with food, music, art and events all year round.
Montreal is close to the USA border and can be reached in a day’s drive from New York or Boston. It is famous for its underground network of walkways and metro stops linking subterranean shopping centres, hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues, sheltered and warm in Quebec’s snowy winters.
In the summer months, visitors can enjoy the spacious, well-designed city. Walk along the banks of the St Lawrence River and take in the open spaces of the Parc du Mont-Royal (Mount Royal Park) and Montreal Botanical Garden. Visit the gothic Notre Dame Basilica with depictions of Montreal’s history on its walls, or the Harborfront Science Museum at the Old Port of Montreal.
