The island of Lombok is separated from Bali by the Lombok Strait. The two islands are a similar size, but Lombok offers a more adventure-focused experience with fewer crowds and almost no traffic.
Anywhere you go on the island, you will be able to see Mt Rinjani, the second-tallest mountain in Indonesia. This conical volcano offers some of the best experiences on the island; you can spend several days hiking its slopes and surrounding jungle. Reaching the peak usually takes a three day round trip, and you will be rewarded with the sight of the stunning turquoise-blue Lake Segara Anak nestled in the crater. Enjoy the hot springs, the views of Lombok and the surrounding islands, sunrise over the crater, the star-filled night, and the sight of Mount Barujari, the volcano within a volcano.
There are plenty of smaller walks and hikes around the island, and a million beautiful sights including waterfalls and streams. Take a day trip from Senggigi to see some of Lombok’s hidden waterfalls; an easy walk will take you through rice paddies, tropical jungle and banana plantations. You can also discover deserted beaches, or cruise the coast and surrounding island by boat.
